Reading the headlines, you get a sense that Irene is going to rip the East Coast to tatters. New York is shut down, 60 million people "could" be affected, nuclear power plants could go offline, over $13Billion worth of damage "could" occur.
This "historic" hurricane "could" have been so bad, that MSNBC asked former New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin what would be the best way to respond. The only question Ray Nagin should answer is "Why should people rely on the government for hurricane evacuations and relief?" His answer "could" have been hillarious.
Irene has been yet another overblown crisis that a complicite media has hyped up to show how prepared Obama is in reacting to an emergency. This complicity is simply jaw dropping, mind numbing, and down right intellectually insulting. As with other overblown crisis', what "could have" will be touted in such a way as to show what this "historic President" prevented, but really didn't.

You would think that the media would know when to let up on the frenzied hype once it became known the 'eye' of the hurricane collapsed and winds reported along coastlines were not that severe. But instead, the media continues to hype this thing as if it was another Katrina even as Irene continues to fizzle down to little more than a weak tropical storm in strength as it heads over land.
This ought to give people even more reason to distrust the media since they seem to have a hard time distinguishing fact from fiction, truth from lies, and generally right from wrong on what seems to be a fairly consistent basis of them getting things wrong, including this overblown hype regarding hurricane, er, tropical storm Irene.
